Marina Mabrey's Historic Night
In a thrilling display of basketball brilliance, Marina Mabrey of the Toronto Tempo made history on Thursday night by tying the WNBA's single-game scoring record with an astounding 53 points. The Tempo triumphed over the Los Angeles Sparks with a commanding score of 125-97, showcasing their strength on home turf.
Record-Breaking Performance
Mabrey's phenomenal performance included a remarkable 9-of-18 shooting from beyond the arc, further cementing her reputation as one of the league's top shooters. Earlier this season, she had already set the record for three-pointers in a game, hitting nine in a June 19 victory against the Connecticut Sun, where she also achieved a then-career-high of 37 points.
Surpassing Her Own Milestones
As the game progressed, Mabrey quickly surpassed her previous scoring high, reaching 39 points by the end of the third quarter. With an electrifying surge in the final quarter, she added another 14 points, allowing her to match the single-game scoring record held by WNBA stars A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage.
