L.O.L. Surprise! dolls are set to make their live-action debut with a new scripted series titled L.O.L. Surprise! The Next Headliner, launching on August 1 on the brand's YouTube channel. The show celebrates the franchise's 10th anniversary and promises to combine music, humor, and themes of collaboration among aspiring performers.
Overview of the New Series
The live-action series follows five aspiring performers who come together for a music competition, only to discover that their strength lies in teamwork. According to Josh Hackbarth, chief marketing officer at MGA Entertainment, this project marks a significant evolution for the brand, moving from toys to a full-fledged entertainment franchise.
Hackbarth stated, "L.O.L. has evolved from being a toy brand into being a full-on franchise over the last 10 years. We wanted to extend that story into something very premium and really go after some longform storytelling, and we tie it back to music." Each episode will feature original music performed by the cast, with a full soundtrack album planned for release alongside the season finale.
Target Audience and Nostalgia Factor
The primary demographic for the series is children aged 8-12, but Hackbarth emphasizes that the show is designed to appeal to a broader audience, including parents and older siblings. He noted, "It’s great family viewing," highlighting that many teens who grew up with L.O.L. Surprise! dolls are now nostalgic about their childhood experiences with the brand.
