Jurgen Klopp is poised to take over as the head coach of the Germany national football team after reaching an agreement in principle with the German Football Association (DFB) on Friday in New York. This development follows the departure of Julian Nagelsmann, who left the role after Germany's unexpected exit from the World Cup.
Klopp's New Role with the DFB
Reports indicate that a breakthrough was made during negotiations in New York, with Klopp expected to sign a contract that will run until the end of the 2030 World Cup. Only minor details remain before the deal is finalized. The DFB is planning to announce the agreement on Saturday, marking a significant shift for both Klopp and the national team.
Klopp, who previously managed Liverpool, had been serving as the head of global soccer for Red Bull Group. His contract included a special exit clause that allowed him to pursue the Germany position. This will be Klopp's first coaching job since his departure from Liverpool in 2024.
Germany's Recent Coaching Changes
Nagelsmann, who took charge of Germany in September 2023, guided the team to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals before stepping down after their shock exit in the last 32 against Paraguay. His tenure was marked by high hopes but ultimately fell short during crucial matches.
