Jonjo Shelvey, manager of UAE Second Division side Arabian Falcons FC, announced the signing of Premier League champion Danny Simpson as a player-coach for the 2026/27 season. Simpson, 39, comes out of retirement to join the Dubai-based club, where he will take on both on-pitch and backroom responsibilities.
Simpson, known for his crucial role in Leicester City’s historic title win in 2016, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to work with Shelvey. “The opportunity to join Jonjo and this exciting project was one I couldn’t turn down,” he stated. “I still have plenty to offer on the pitch.”
Strengthening the Team with Experience
With the signing of Simpson, Shelvey aims to build a competitive squad capable of achieving promotion. The manager highlighted Simpson's leadership and winning mentality as key attributes for the team's success. “Danny is the ideal signing—a Premier League champion with vast experience,” said Shelvey.
The Falcons narrowly missed promotion last season, and Shelvey is determined to make a stronger push in his first full season in charge. Alongside Simpson, the club confirmed a one-year contract extension for club captain Ravel Morrison, who will play a vital role in the midfield.
