A limited series titled The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, starring Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen, is set to debut on Netflix in winter 2026. The show chronicles the infamous unsolved murder case of JonBenet Ramsey, which occurred on Christmas night in 1996. Initially greenlit by Paramount+ in 2024, the series was moved to Netflix after the project was shelved following Skydance's takeover of Paramount.
Production Details and Development
Production on The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey wrapped in early 2025 under the working title Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey. The series aims to be the first part of an anthology exploring unsolved crimes, similar to Netflix's Monster. Paramount TV Studios was initially involved but will not be credited in the Netflix release due to the changes in production teams.
After the transition to Netflix, the series has garnered attention for its unique perspective on the case, as outlined by the streaming service. Netflix describes the series as an exploration of “one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history, and the devastating personal and public reckoning that followed the death of JonBenet Ramsey.”
