John Stones highlighted England's strong mentality following their thrilling 3-2 victory against Mexico on Sunday. The match was crucial as England prepares for their quarter-final clash against Norway on Saturday at the Azteca Stadium.

England's Resilience Against Mexico

Despite playing with 10 men after Jarell Quansah's red card, England managed to secure their win. Stones, who came off the bench, praised the team's defensive efforts in a high-pressure situation.

“It was really pleasing to see the reaction of the blocks and the saves,” Stones said. “It creates a real winning mentality and atmosphere that gets everyone pumped up.”

Defensive Strategy in High-Pressure Situations

Stones played a key role in England's defensive strategy, which included switching to a 5-3-1 formation after Quansah's dismissal. The England defense, consisting of Stones, Dan Burn, and Marc Guéhi, effectively neutralized Mexico's attacks.

“We had to soak up a lot of pressure and really grind it out,” Stones explained. “Statistically, Mexico have been so good at home.”

As England gears up for their match against Norway, Stones acknowledged the challenge posed by striker Erling Haaland, his former teammate at Manchester City. However, he emphasized that the team's focus remains on their collective goal.

“We all have the same goal in mind which is to get to that final and see where it takes us,” Stones stated. “I feel great and I’m loving helping and performing the way I did against Mexico.”
