Jay-Z addressed the crowd during his concert at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, explaining the three-hour delay that pushed the start time to after midnight. The rapper emphasized that the delay was necessary for crowd safety, as there were approximately 10,000 fans waiting outside.
After finally beginning the show just after 12 a.m. ET on Monday, Jay-Z told attendees, “It was like 10,000 people outside, and we closed all the doors, and somebody rushed the door. They closed the door for you guys' safety and everyone’s safety outside. I don’t want to start the music and people get trampled. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience, but I had to make sure everyone was OK. I appreciate your patience.”
Concert Highlights and Special Guests
Despite the frustration caused by the delay, the audience was enthusiastic once the performance began. Initially set to start at 8 p.m. ET, the concert concluded around 2:45 a.m. ET, culminating in a spectacular display of fireworks over the stadium.
Special guests during the final night, dubbed “Extra Innings,” included Rihanna, who performed “Run This Town” with Jay-Z and delivered a solo rendition of “Bitch Better Have My Money.” Other surprise appearances featured Beyoncé, Usher, and Pharrell Williams, adding to the excitement of the night.
