Heritage Auctions achieved a remarkable total of $1.41 billion in sales during the first half of 2026, marking the highest mid-year figure in the company's 50-year history. This represents a 47 percent increase compared to the same period last year, putting the Dallas-based auction house on track for another record-breaking year.
Emerging Collecting Categories Drive Growth
The impressive sales figures are not merely a reflection of traditional categories like fine art and rare books, but also a testament to the growing influence of categories such as video games, trading cards, and comic books. These once-niche markets are attracting new generations of collectors, broadening the auction landscape.
In June, Heritage Auctions sold the highest-graded sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. ever offered at auction for $3 million, a record for a video game. Additionally, a Pikachu Illustrator card fetched $1.41 million, while complete sets of First Edition Base Set and Skyridge Master Sets each surpassed $1 million.
Notable Sales in Traditional Categories
Despite the rise of new collecting categories, traditional segments continue to flourish. Heritage Auctions reported sales of over $3.6 million during its Star Wars Day events. Noteworthy sales include a 1911 Chinese pattern dollar that sold for $4.88 million, the highest value for a world coin in the auction house's history, and 18 Norman Rockwell works, led by Study for Cheerleaders, which sold for $600,000.
