On Friday, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce celebrated their wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City, drawing criticism from left-wing pundit Hasan Piker. Piker condemned the estimated $15 million cost of the star-studded event, which included security expenses covered by taxpayers. He stated, “I think this is a dramatic misuse of public resources,” during his popular show on social media.
Hasan Piker's Criticism of the Wedding
Piker expressed his discontent with the couple's lavish wedding, arguing it exemplifies the disconnect between billionaire lifestyles and public responsibility. He remarked, “It’s heightening the contradictions. It’s showcasing one again that, no matter how beloved a public figure you might be, you’re still, if you’re a billionaire, you’re still a billionaire and you are going to do billionaire shit.”
The wedding attracted around 1,000 celebrity guests and required significant security measures, including street closures and police presence. Piker stated, “It’s straightforwardly a flex to be like, yeah, I can do this, and I kind of think it’s a little bit tacky, at best.”
Details of the Wedding Event
The wedding festivities reportedly included a 100-person rehearsal dinner held at the Infosys Theater within Madison Square Garden the night before the main event. The cost for the New York Police Department's involvement for both the wedding and rehearsal dinner was estimated to be around $160,000, although it remains unclear whether Swift or taxpayers will bear this expense.
