After England's narrow victory against Norway in the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Saturday, Harry Kane responded to Thomas Tuchel's pointed criticisms about the team's performance. Tuchel expressed dissatisfaction with the team's cohesion and technical execution, emphasizing the need for improvement ahead of the upcoming semi-final against Argentina in Atlanta.
Tuchel's Expectations for England
Following the match, Tuchel did not hold back in his assessment, stating he was "unhappy with the performance in every sense." He pointed out the team's numerous technical mistakes and a lack of speed, suggesting they were fortunate to secure a win. Kane acknowledged Tuchel's comments were intended to motivate the players, saying, "He just wants to see the best version of us."
Kane further explained that Tuchel's approach is about pushing the team to reach their potential, especially in high-stakes matches. "He knows as much as anyone that it’s not as simple as that, we’re playing against good opposition and good teams. He’s trying to drag it out of us," Kane noted.
Bellingham's Response to Criticism
Jude Bellingham, who scored both of England's goals in the 2-1 victory, reacted to Tuchel's critique with some irritation. "Yeah, well, whatever," Bellingham remarked, later adding that Tuchel might not fully understand the challenges of playing in the intense conditions against top players like Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard.
