South Korean golfer Haeran Ryu made history on Saturday by shooting an 11-under 60 at the Evian Championship, establishing a new record for the lowest round in LPGA major history. This remarkable performance gives Ryu a three-shot lead as she aims for her second major victory in just three weeks.
Historic Performance at Evian Championship
Ryu’s round included nine birdies and one eagle, showcasing her exceptional skill and focus. She birdied four of her last five holes, and although she came close to tying the LPGA scoring record of 59, she opted for a two-putt birdie on the final hole. “Oh my God, it’s 11-under par today. It was so amazing,” Ryu remarked after the round.
This performance not only broke the previous Evian Championship record of 61, held by Leona Maguire, Jeung-eun Lee6, and Hyo Joo Kim, but also set a new standard for all LPGA majors since the tournament became a major in 2013.
Chasing a Second Major Title
With her score of 18-under 194 for the tournament, Ryu leads Japan’s Aki Iwai, who shot a solid 65 but remains three shots back. Ryu's performance comes just two weeks after she secured her first major title at the Women’s PGA Championship.
