The Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., was temporarily closed on Friday due to extreme heat, with 11 individuals hospitalized for heat-related illnesses. According to NBC News, DC Fire and EMS reported that seven of those hospitalized received advanced life support while four received basic life support.

Before the fair's closure, DC Fire and EMS confirmed a total of 44 patient contacts, with more than a dozen related to heat illness and injury. The extreme temperatures raised safety concerns, prompting officials to prioritize public health.
The situation underscores the importance of monitoring health conditions during summer events. Attendees are urged to stay hydrated and seek cooling resources, especially during heatwaves.
Event Adjustments Due to Weather Conditions
The fair is a part of President Donald Trump's Freedom 250 lineup, which includes various Fourth of July festivities. The organization stated, “The safety and well-being of every guest remains our top priority as we celebrate this historic 250th Independence Day.” In light of the heat, authorities have coordinated to enhance cooling resources and medical support.
