Geoff Wilson Under Fire for AI Video
Fund manager Geoff Wilson, known for his vocal opposition to the government’s tax reforms, has recently faced scrutiny after reposting a controversial AI-generated video. The video, originally shared by a rightwing nationalist account, depicted Australian leaders Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers in a misleading light, suggesting they were transferring funds from white Australians to newly arrived migrants adorned in Islamic face coverings.
Video Sparks Outrage
As the video circulated online, it quickly garnered criticism for its inflammatory nature and potential to incite division. Wilson, who admitted to not having viewed the entire video before sharing it, stated that he deleted the post once he became aware of the “inappropriate associations” linked to it.
Response to Criticism
After being contacted by Guardian Australia, Wilson removed the video along with other related content he had shared earlier that morning, which included references to the QAnon conspiracy theory. His hasty deletion highlights the growing concern over the spread of misinformation and the responsibilities of public figures in scrutinizing the content they share.
