The former New York home of Marlborough Gallery, a leading mega-gallery before its closure in 2024, has been sold for $7.5 million to Gazelli Art House. This transaction took place on Friday at 545 West 25th Street in Chelsea, marking a significant shift in the art landscape following the gallery's tumultuous history.
Details of the Sale
The sale was facilitated by brokers Jeffrey Zoldan and Roger Gillen from Brown Harris Stevens. The 9,228-square-foot property, located in the heart of Chelsea's gallery district, is designed for showcasing large-scale contemporary art, featuring:
- 18-foot ceilings
- A street-level garage door for accommodating large artworks
- Rare curb-cut access for art handling
- A 1,250-square-foot private terrace on the second floor
This acquisition represents a new chapter for Gazelli Art House, which operates galleries in London and Baku, Azerbaijan, expanding its international presence.
The Legacy of Marlborough Gallery
Marlborough Gallery, which announced its closure in April 2024, had been a prominent player in the art world for nearly 80 years. The decision to cease operations followed years of financial difficulties and internal disputes within the family managing the gallery. The gallery's inventory, valued at around $250 million, is now being liquidated.
