On Thursday, July 11, 2026, Flock Safety faced backlash after alleged cease and desist letters surfaced online, claiming the company demanded the cessation of discussions about its surveillance technology. The letters, initially posted by the Instagram account of The Saturday Salon, sparked widespread criticism and raised questions about Flock's commitment to public debate.
Flock's Response to Allegations
Flock Safety's chief strategy officer, Rahul Sidhu, quickly refuted the claims, labeling the letters as part of a mass disinformation campaign. "Flock never sent this letter, these people made it up (with a forged signature) to try to manipulate people," Sidhu stated. He emphasized that Flock supports open discussions about its technology.
In an official statement, Dan Haley, Flock's chief legal officer, confirmed the existence of forged letters circulating online. "To be clear: these letters did not come from me or from anyone at Flock. We welcome and encourage public debate about our technology," Haley remarked.
Details of the Alleged Cease and Desist Letters
The letters that went viral contained demands for The Saturday Salon to halt conversations regarding Flock's surveillance practices. One letter, reportedly found taped to The Saturday Salon's door, garnered significant attention with over 3,000 likes on Instagram.
