As England prepares to face Norway in the World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, there are five players who need to avoid yellow cards to prevent suspension for the semi-finals. Yellow cards were reset after the group stage, but players can still be suspended for accumulating two yellow cards during the knockout stage.
England Players at Risk of Suspension
Among the players at risk is Jude Bellingham, who received a yellow card for a foul against Nathaniel Mbuku during the round of 32 match against DR Congo. Bellingham was fortunate not to receive another yellow card in the previous match against Mexico.
Additionally, four other England players were booked during the game against Mexico, increasing their risk of suspension:
- Declan Rice - yellow card for a high boot in the first minute.
- Marc Guehi - booked after a VAR review awarded Mexico a penalty.
- Nico O'Reilly - yellow card for elbowing Jorge Sanchez.
- Jordan Henderson - received a yellow despite being an unused substitute, following an incident after the match.
Jordan Henderson's Injury and Suspension Status
Jordan Henderson is also among the players facing suspension risk. He was shown a yellow card in the dying moments of the Mexico match, despite not playing. He suffered an injury when he fell over the advertising boards during post-match celebrations, but has since undergone surgery for a fractured wrist and remains on the bench for the upcoming match.
