The Fiat Topolino, America’s cheapest new electric vehicle, was unveiled by Stellantis on July 8, 2026, with a price tag of $13,995. This compact EV, measuring smaller than a ping-pong table, reaches a maximum speed of 19 mph and offers an all-electric range of 46 miles. Designed for urban settings, it emphasizes affordability over traditional car features.
Understanding the Fiat Topolino's Features
The Topolino’s 5.4kWh battery can be recharged in approximately five hours when connected to a 2.3 kW AC charger. Although it resembles a car, it functions more as a micromobility vehicle, akin to an electric quadricycle or a golf cart. Its design highlights compactness, with a wheelbase slightly longer than one and a half king mattresses.
With a top speed of 19 mph, the Topolino is not intended for highway use. However, a Low Speed Vehicle conversion kit will be available later this summer, allowing users to increase its speed to 25 mph. This vehicle caters to those seeking affordable transportation for short urban trips.
The Market for Compact Electric Vehicles
While the Topolino presents an economical option, small cars have historically struggled in the US market. Fiat's initial success in 2012, with over 43,000 sales, has dwindled significantly, resulting in only 1,300 sales in 2025. The previous Fiat 500e model, which was larger, even offered leases for $0 down.
