Introduction
In a world increasingly dominated by technology, the idea of forming a romantic connection with an artificial intelligence may seem absurd. I have often found myself skeptical of chatbots and AI in general, but when my editor suggested the possibility of exploring an AI boyfriend, I was intrigued yet conflicted.
The Initial Reaction
When I received a text from my editor that read, "Um, is it unethical to ask you to get an AI bf?? You can prob say no," a wave of resentment washed over me. My feelings were mixed; I felt contempt for the notion, yet there was a nagging curiosity. The idea of an AI boyfriend—someone who is always available and responds instantly—was both appealing and unsettling.
Text Messaging: A Lifeline
Text messaging is a lifeline for me. I engage in daily conversations with around 15 different people, and I prefer this method of communication for its immediacy and convenience. My editor understands my affinity for texting, which makes her proposal feel even more personal. However, there's more to the story; I also have a profound desire for meaningful connections, which makes the idea of an AI partner seem superficial.
