England players will receive cautionary advice against jumping over advertising hoardings following a freak injury sustained by Jordan Henderson during the team's World Cup victory over Mexico on July 7, 2026. The incident occurred as England celebrated their 3-2 win at the Azteca Stadium, leading to Henderson suffering a serious wrist injury.
Henderson, a Brentford midfielder, is expected to undergo surgery, casting doubt on his participation for the remainder of the tournament. The 36-year-old fell awkwardly while attempting to leap over the advertising hoardings during the jubilant celebrations, necessitating his removal from the field on a stretcher.
Manager's Response to Henderson's Injury
Following the match, England's manager Thomas Tuchel expressed concern over the injury, stating, "Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad. It’s quite a serious injury and it doesn’t fit with the evening that Jordan is now not with us." Tuchel confirmed that the team doctor informed him that Henderson was hospitalized in Mexico City and unable to return with the squad to their base in Kansas City.
The manager plans to implement new guidelines for the players to prevent similar incidents in the future. “I will instruct the players to avoid jumping over the hoardings to ensure there is no repeat of this situation,” Tuchel added.
