England fans are facing exorbitant resale prices for tickets to the World Cup last-16 match against Mexico, scheduled for July 3, 2026, at the Azteca Stadium. According to the Football Association, tickets purchased through the England Supporters' Travel Club (ESTC) ballot are being relisted for dramatic markups on FIFA's official resale portal.
Ticket Resale Prices Soar
The most expensive tickets, originally bought for $605 (£460), are now listed at a staggering $30,000 (£22,800) each. Including FIFA's 15% buyer fee, the total cost climbs to approximately $34,500 (£26,220), which is 57 times the original face value. Sellers are also required to pay a 15% fee, amounting to about $4,500 (£3,420), yet they still stand to profit significantly, with a potential gain of $25,500 (£19,380) per ticket.
Conversely, the cheapest available ticket is listed at a total cost of $3,448 (£2,620), representing nearly 12 times its original price of $295 (£224).
FIFA's Controversial Resale Policy
As of Friday morning, 76 tickets were available in the 'supporter' categories behind the goal in the England section. It's unclear whether these listings are from the original ESTC purchasers or from secondary sellers marking up prices. Tickets from the ESTC allocation can only be purchased by individuals who identified as England fans when registering with FIFA.
