Ed Sheeran is set to sign a record deal with Interscope Records, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter. This move follows the conclusion of his contract with Warner Music Group earlier this year. The long-term deal is expected to include multiple albums, although specific details remain undisclosed.
Sheeran's Transition to Interscope Records
After extensive discussions with various major labels, Sheeran has chosen to join Universal Music Group's Interscope, aligning himself with top artists like Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar. This partnership also marks a reunion with Interscope CEO John Janick, who previously worked with Sheeran at Warner's Elektra Records.
Sheeran, known for being one of the most-streamed artists globally, ranks sixth on Spotify's all-time artist list. His impressive catalog includes hits like “Shape of You” and “Thinking Out Loud.” His past few albums, however, have not matched the success of earlier releases such as “X” and “÷.”
Recent Career Developments
In a recent newsletter, Sheeran expressed gratitude towards Warner, stating, “I leave the company with SO much love and gratitude for everything we have achieved together.” He emphasized that his departure was not due to dissatisfaction but rather a desire for professional change, remarking, “This isn’t a ‘disgruntled artist leaves record label’ type situation.”
