Dutton Ranch has been renewed for a second season following its dramatic season one finale, which aired last week. Stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who portray Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler respectively, shared insights about the upcoming season and the show's new direction under showrunner Benjamin Cavell.
Season Finale Cliffhanger and Renewal News
The season one finale concluded with a shocking cliffhanger, leaving fans eager for more. In the finale titled “El Padrino,” Beth and Rip discovered that their partner, Beulah (played by Annette Bening), had deceived them, entangling them with a cartel. The episode culminated in a deadly shootout, resulting in the abduction of their adopted son, Carter (played by Finn Little), which has left viewers anxious about his fate.
“We did it,” Reilly expressed about the show's success, noting that they were officially informed of the second season pickup just a few weeks ago. The renewal comes as a relief after a challenging production period, which included extreme weather conditions and a demanding shooting schedule.
Creative Challenges and New Beginnings
With the transition to a new showrunner, Reilly shared her concerns about stepping away from the guidance of Taylor Sheridan, who has been a pivotal figure in the franchise. “I was very uncertain of what this would be without his words. I didn’t know if it was gonna work,” she said. However, both Reilly and Hauser expressed excitement about the creative opportunities that lie ahead.
