A long-lasting heatwave is set to impact much of the central and eastern United States, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Starting this week, temperatures are expected to rise significantly, coinciding with the Fourth of July holiday and World Cup festivities. High humidity levels will exacerbate the heat, making conditions uncomfortable and potentially dangerous for many.
Severe Heat Conditions Expected
On Sunday, parts of the US, especially Phoenix and central Texas, were already experiencing temperatures around 100°F (38°C). The NWS has warned that these extreme temperatures will continue to spread across the region as the week progresses.
Forecasters predict that high humidity will accompany the heat, leading to a heat index that feels even hotter. This combination of high temperatures and humidity levels will pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations.
