Central and eastern Europe is bracing for a dangerous heatwave as temperatures soar above 40°C in some areas. On Tuesday, Budapest is expected to reach these extreme levels, prompting health officials to issue red warnings across Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Balkans. Authorities are advising residents to remain indoors to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Record-Breaking Temperatures Across Europe
The current heatwave follows last week’s record-breaking temperatures, with a heat dome affecting large portions of the continent. According to models from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, temperatures are predicted to rise significantly.
Many cities in the region are experiencing unprecedented heat, which is raising concerns about public health and infrastructure strain. With rising temperatures, the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke increases, especially among vulnerable populations.
