Cristiano Ronaldo has not ruled out the possibility that the ongoing 2026 World Cup could be his last as he prepares for a critical knockout match against Spain on July 6, 2026. The 41-year-old forward, who is set to make his 233rd appearance for Portugal, has emphasized his desire to leave the sport on his own terms.
Ronaldo's Career Reflections Before Spain Match
Ahead of the last-16 clash, Ronaldo stated, “I will finish when I choose. You always ask the same question: ‘Is this the last one?’ We will see,” during a press conference. He expressed no regrets about his career, saying, “Cristiano is going to be 1,000 percent leaving with a clear conscience.”
Having scored three goals in the tournament, he mentioned, “I think I’m not doing so bad. Others have done better, but I think I’m doing not so bad.” Ronaldo also shared that he has enjoyed this World Cup more than his previous five, highlighting the importance of passion in his long career.
Portugal's Preparation for a Tough Match
Ronaldo conveyed confidence in Portugal’s ability to face Spain, saying, “If we didn’t have this belief, we wouldn’t be here.” He noted, “The team is well, calm and well prepared. We’re going to face a difficult team, but I think we will be prepared.”
