Surge in Surveillance Spending Under Trump Administration
A recent report highlights the alarming increase in spending by U.S. immigration agencies on advanced surveillance technologies. This growth has been particularly pronounced during what some are calling Trump 2.0, as funding for AI-driven tools aimed at monitoring immigrants has reached unprecedented levels.
Record Investments in Technology
The analysis focuses on contracts awarded by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to eleven technology firms known for their surveillance solutions. The findings reveal a staggering increase in financial commitments, with expenditures doubling from 2024 to 2025 to over $310 million. By 2026, this figure escalated to an all-time high of $513 million.
Implications for Immigrant Communities
The report raises critical concerns regarding the implications of such surveillance capabilities on immigrant communities. As the U.S. government invests heavily in these technologies, advocates warn that the increased monitoring could lead to heightened fears and mistrust among vulnerable populations.
