Gauff, the seventh seed, faced a tough battle against the fourth seed Pegula, who had been in excellent form throughout the tournament. Despite a shaky start, including four double faults and 17 unforced errors in the opening set, Gauff raised her game significantly, committing only three more double faults and 15 unforced errors in the subsequent sets.
