Many players on the Cape Verde national team, including five who played against Argentina, have roots in this city. Jeffry Fortes, a former Cape Verde international, expressed his pride in his team's achievements, stating, “As a Cape Verdean, I’m prouder than ever. We can’t take this for granted.”
