Bukayo Saka has been named on the bench for England's last 32 match against DR Congo, which kicks off today at 5pm UK time. The Arsenal winger has had a challenging World Cup, having only started once in the 2-0 victory over Panama. Due to ongoing fitness concerns, he has appeared as a substitute in the matches against Croatia and Ghana.
Current Condition of Bukayo Saka
Saka's fitness issues have been a significant concern leading up to the tournament. He was carefully managed by Arsenal after struggling with a hamstring injury earlier this season. “He seems to be more and more ready and will hopefully push,” said England manager Thomas Tuchel regarding Saka's condition before the Panama match.
Despite his limited playing time, Saka has contributed two assists in three World Cup appearances. The decision not to start him against DR Congo indicates that the team is cautious about risking his fitness at this stage of the tournament.
