On Sunday, Brazil's coach Carlo Ancelotti dismissed the notion of implementing an "anti-Erling Haaland plan" as his team prepares to face Norway in the World Cup quarterfinals at MetLife Stadium. Brazil, having topped Group C, aims to secure their sixth World Cup title after a dramatic win against Japan.
Brazil's Strategy Against Norway
Ancelotti emphasized the importance of focusing on Norway as a cohesive team rather than solely on Haaland, the Manchester City forward. He stated, "I don't think that there is such a thing as an 'anti-Haaland' plan. I don't need to tell my players how to defend; they have faced each other a few times." He expressed confidence in his squad's readiness, saying, "Our team is in an optimal condition. However, we need to continue improving."
Brazil's recent performance saw them come from behind to defeat Japan, with a stoppage-time goal from Gabriel Martinelli. As they prepare for the match against Norway, Ancelotti insists that his players are well-equipped to handle the challenge posed by their opponents.
Norway's Approach and Key Players
Stale Solbakken, Norway's coach, also emphasized that the match would not revolve solely around Haaland. He remarked, "Brazil has one of the best pairs of defenders in this tournament, two players who are at a top-notch international level." Solbakken acknowledged Brazil's status as favorites but noted that Norway is determined to put up a strong fight.
