BBC Commercial, the commercial division of the U.K. public broadcaster, announced a 17% increase in earnings for the fiscal year 2025/2026, reaching £263 million ($352 million). This growth was primarily fueled by the success of its direct-to-consumer services, including the popular streaming service BritBox and the animated series Bluey, despite facing ongoing market pressures.
Financial Highlights of BBC Commercial
For the fiscal year, BBC Studios reported unchanged revenue of £2.20 billion ($2.90 billion). The company also saw a significant increase in its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), which rose by 17% to £267 million ($357 million) compared to £228 million in the previous year. Operating costs decreased by 3% to £2.02 billion ($2.70 billion).
BBC Commercial returned £377 million ($504 million) to the BBC, including £154 million ($206 million) for content investment, although this was down from £200 million in the previous year. The company is on track to meet its five-year target of £1.5 billion ($2.0 billion) in returns.
Impact of Bluey and BritBox on Growth
The growth in earnings was significantly supported by the global popularity of Bluey, which has become a cultural phenomenon. BBC Commercial noted that direct-to-consumer services, particularly BritBox, have been key drivers of revenue growth. In North America, revenues from BritBox grew by 20%, and new subscription offerings exceeded expectations.
