At Kenya's largest psychiatric referral hospital, mental health workers are promoting men's psychological wellbeing through innovative means. On a recent visit, a former patient is providing grooming sessions to patients, aimed at enhancing their self-esteem and supporting their recovery journey.
Rebuilding Confidence Through Grooming
The initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage men to take their mental health seriously. Many men face stigma and often suffer in silence, making it essential to create supportive environments.
During these grooming sessions, barbers not only provide haircuts but also engage in conversations that help patients express their feelings. As one barber noted, “A simple haircut can make a big difference in how someone feels about themselves.”
