The death toll from a devastating fire at a music bar in Bangkok has risen to 30, with authorities investigating potential safety negligence. The fire, which occurred on July 14, 2026, prompted the Bangkok governor to promise stricter inspections as 24 individuals remain in critical condition.
Investigation into Bangkok Bar Fire
Following the tragic incident at the Rong Beer Na Ladprao bar, located in the city’s Chatuchak area, police are examining whether the bar's management adhered to safety regulations. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced the formation of a committee dedicated to uncovering the truth behind the fire and determining necessary safety improvements.
Authorities suspect that an electrical short circuit from a ceiling air conditioner may have ignited the flames. The Royal Thai Police chief, Kittharath Punpetch, reported that the single-story bar had four exits, but investigations are underway to assess whether the two rear exits were blocked or rendered unusable during the emergency.
Details of the Incident
Firefighters took approximately 30 minutes to control the blaze, which erupted late on Sunday. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the fire quickly spread, with smoke filling the venue. A musician performing at the time noted seeing smoke from a circuit breaker before an explosion occurred.
