AWS (Amazon Web Services) has partnered with Bluesight to introduce Prism, an innovative AI layer designed to enhance hospital pharmacy and compliance data management. The Prism Assistant for ControlCheck has reached general availability, currently operating across 20 health systems, as announced by AWS on October 10, 2025. This initiative aims to simplify the labor-intensive compliance processes associated with the 340B program.
Overview of Prism and Its Functionality
The Prism Assistant is a vital tool that connects various data points within hospital pharmacies, automating what has traditionally been a manual process. According to AWS, a single 340B covered entity can expend over 4,000 staff hours annually just to verify if certain drug purchases qualify for exceptions under compliance rules. The staff must cross-reference numerous data sources, including FDA shortage notices and inventory records, to ensure compliance.
Bluesight's initial product, ControlCheck, assists hospital diversion teams in monitoring controlled substances. However, compliance personnel still had to manually compile reports and analyze data. The introduction of Prism provides a conversational interface that allows users to query ControlCheck data, generate charts, and create reports efficiently.
Future Developments in 340B Compliance Tools
Bluesight is also developing a multi-product agent aimed at enhancing compliance with Group Purchasing Organisation (GPO) regulations, scheduled for release in 2026. This agent will integrate data from Bluesight's suite of products: CostCheck, ShortageCheck, and 340BCheck. These tools collectively will streamline the process of verifying drug purchases and eligibility under federal 340B rules.
