Arsenal could be on the brink of an injury crisis as they prepare to defend their Premier League title, kicking off on August 12 against Coventry City. The Gunners clinched the 2025/26 title just days before the final match, following a grueling season that saw them play 63 games across four competitions. Manager Mikel Arteta faces significant challenges with player fitness as the new season approaches.
Injury Woes Continue for Arsenal
The previous season, 2024/25, was particularly tough for Arteta, with several key players requiring surgery, including Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus. Despite bringing in eight new players to strengthen the squad, Arsenal struggled with injuries to vital players like Martin Ødegaard and Jurrien Timber, impacting their performance.
As the 2026 World Cup approaches, the situation remains precarious. With 16 Arsenal players initially called up for the tournament, including Saka and Declan Rice, many will have little time to recuperate before the new season begins. Both players have been managing injuries for the latter part of the last season, raising concerns about their fitness.
Concerns Over Player Fitness
Currently, Arsenal officially lists only Timber and Ben White as injured, but the overall situation is worrisome. William Saliba has been nursing a back issue, while Piero Hincapie is recovering from a knock received during the World Cup.
