Angus Gunn, the Scotland goalkeeper, has officially signed with the San Jose Earthquakes for the remainder of the 2030 MLS season. The announcement came on July 8, 2026, following his release from Nottingham Forest. At 30 years old, Gunn boasts 25 international caps and aims to contribute to the Earthquakes’ title ambitions this season.
Gunn's Career Transition to MLS
After a successful stint at the 2026 World Cup, where he played all three group matches for Scotland, Gunn expressed his excitement about joining the Earthquakes. “It feels incredible to join the Earthquakes,” he stated on the club's website. “Coming off the World Cup, which was an unbelievable experience, I’m just really excited and grateful for the opportunity to come to San Jose.”
Gunn's career began with Manchester City and included two spells with Norwich City. He also played for Southampton and Stoke City before his brief time at Nottingham Forest, where he made only one substitute appearance. His experience at the Premier League level and the World Cup is expected to bolster the Earthquakes' roster.
San Jose Earthquakes' Current Standing
The San Jose Earthquakes are currently positioned second in the Western Conference, just behind the Vancouver Whitecaps on goal difference after 15 games. The team is also third overall in the league standings. Coach Bruce Arena expressed his satisfaction with the signing, noting Gunn as “a quality goalkeeper” who will enhance the team's chances as they approach the playoffs.
