Alice Halsey is making waves as the lead in Netflix’s new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie, which premiered on July 9. At just 11 years old, Halsey takes on the iconic role of Laura Ingalls, a character she grew to love only after auditioning for the part. Halsey expressed her excitement, stating, "There’s never really been a billboard of me before, so this is insane."
Alice Halsey's Preparation for Laura Ingalls
To prepare for her role, Halsey immersed herself in the late 19th-century setting. She read the script multiple times, listened to relevant podcasts, and explored books related to the era. "I just wanted to get a sense of who the character was, how I would play her," she explained.
Being on set in costume was crucial for her to connect with Laura's character. Halsey shared, "The prairie can be really wild. It feels like it’s all alive when the breeze goes through and everything moves. It’s really magical. But it’s also really unpredictable." This unpredictability became evident during filming, particularly in the opening scene where she appeared with a slingshot.
Experiences on Set and the Legacy of the Show
Halsey faced the pressure of being at the top of the call sheet but found comfort in the supportive environment of the set. "It’s definitely a big responsibility," she acknowledged, adding that the cast felt like a family. "Everyone was putting their heart and soul into the project, which made it easier to act with such amazing actors," she noted.
