On June 2026, a study of 101 enterprises highlighted that agent orchestration is increasingly relying on model-provider platforms, with Anthropic’s Claude leading the way. The survey, part of VentureBeat Pulse Research, examined how organizations choose platforms, what they optimize for, and the extent of their agent orchestration capabilities.
Understanding Agent Orchestration in Enterprises
Agent orchestration refers to the management of AI agents that execute tasks across various platforms. The research found that while enterprises are consolidating on major model platforms, the reality is that most deployed agents still function primarily as chatbot wrappers. Only 10% of organizations reported that their agents achieve true multi-step orchestration, indicating a significant gap between ambition and actual implementation.
As enterprises race to adopt AI technologies, the orchestration layer is evolving faster than the orchestrated portfolios. The study revealed that 71% of respondents admitted that only a quarter or fewer of their deployed agents are capable of executing complex workflows. This highlights the need for more robust orchestration solutions that can better manage and utilize AI capabilities.
The Dominance of Model-Provider Platforms
The preference for specific platforms is largely influenced by what the study calls “model gravity.” Anthropic’s Claude is the primary choice for 40% of enterprises, followed by Microsoft at 18% and OpenAI at 13%. This concentration demonstrates that enterprises are gravitating towards platforms that align closely with their desired AI capabilities.
