On Saturday evening, 300 people were evacuated from a neighborhood in Sarcelles, a suburb north of Paris, following the discovery of a suspicious vehicle containing firearms, including a military-grade weapon. The evacuation was ordered by Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, and an investigation has been initiated by French anti-terrorist prosecutors.
Investigation Launched by Anti-Terrorist Prosecutors
The investigation was prompted after the vehicle was found parked near one of the town's synagogues, which serves a significant Jewish community. According to Nunez, the authorities are still uncertain about the motives behind the vehicle's presence. “We do not yet know the motives,” he stated. “The individuals have not yet been identified.”
French anti-terrorist prosecutors announced they are investigating the incident for potential charges related to forming a terrorist criminal organization, as well as the transport, possession, and acquisition of weapons in connection with a terrorist enterprise.
Security Measures Implemented
A security cordon was established around the suspicious vehicle, located in a bustling area near a cinema and restaurants, which were also evacuated early in the evening. Although bomb disposal experts found no explosives, police sources confirmed that the stolen vehicle contained an assault-style rifle and a handgun.
